Why Adopt a Dog
Adopting a dog from AAPS gives them a second chance at life while bringing loyalty, companionship, and joy into your home. Every dog in our care is health checked, vaccinated, microchipped, and desexed before joining their new family. When you adopt, you're not just gaining a pet — you're welcoming a lifelong friend.
- Save a Life: Provide a loving home to a cat or dog in need.
- Support Shelter Operations: Each adoption helps fund veterinary care, food, and shelter resources.
- Reduce Overpopulation: Adoption helps give unwanted animals a safe, permanent home.
- Bring Joy to Your Family: Pets offer companionship, love, and emotional support.

How Adoption Works
Our adoption process is designed to match pets with the right families, making it easy and stress-free.
Plan
Think about your home, lifestyle, and long-term commitment. Make sure you’re ready to provide a loving, permanent home for a cat or dog.
Search
When you begin your search for a furry friend, read each animal’s description carefully. This ensures both you and the pet will be a purrfect match.
Apply
Submit your adoption application with accurate details so our team can determine the best fit for the animal. Please be patient with us as we review large amounts of applications.
Visit
If approved, schedule a meet-and-greet session. Spend time with the pet to confirm a good fit before finalising adoption.

Can I take the dog home the same day?
In some cases, yes. However, all applications must be reviewed and approved first to ensure the best match for both the dog and adopter.
Do you adopt outside Victoria?
Adoption eligibility depends on the individual dog and circumstances. Please contact our team to discuss your location and suitability.
What if the dog is not the right match?
We want every adoption to be successful. If challenges arise, our team can provide guidance and support to help you and your dog adjust.
What should I bring when adopting a dog?
Please bring a secure collar and lead, a suitable transport arrangement, and a valid form of identification. Our team will advise you of any additional requirements before collection.
