Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the AAPS

Our volunteer team, which currently stands at around 160, is one of the biggest assets to our shelter and provides essential assistance in caring for the animals the shelter houses. Without volunteers, our shelter could not continue to save the thousands of animals we do every year. Volunteering is a rewarding experience, and our animals are the ones who reap the benefits of our volunteer community’s generosity. If you have any questions before applying, please feel free to contact Jamie, volunteermanager@aaps.org.au

To volunteer, you need to be:

Housekeeping / Laundry Assistant:

Do you love animals, but maybe you don’t want to work directly with them? You have a real passion for housekeeping and keeping everything in order and take pleasure in knowing your hard work provides our shelter animals with clean bedding every night, well, we have the position for you! Come and join this vital team and play an integral role in our housekeeping department. This position requires you to be on your feet and walking around the shelter, topping up items.

Every second Saturday 12.30pm till 4pm.

We’re currently looking for a dedicated individual to assistant in the buns and pigs area of our shelter, where you will be directly interacting with our buns and pigs, providing them with much needed enrichment, as well as cleaning their pens. You will need to have a certain level of fitness as the rabbit pens are low on the ground, piggy pens are roughly waste height. Ideally, you will have a basic understanding of rabbit and guinea pigs or a willingness to learn, full training will be provided. This role is perfect for someone that loves peace and quite, as this most likely would be the calmest section of our shelter. Come and join our team!

Love retail, enjoy meeting new people on a daily basis and you absolutely love all things op-shop! Come and join the dedicated team of volunteers servicing our 3 op-shops at the shelter, Keysborough, Moorabbin and Cheltenham. The op-shops are a huge part of what we do at the AAPS, they help provide much needed assistance to our shelter and all the animals in our care on a daily basis! The op-shops can get busy, so you’ll be happy to be on your feet, sorting through donations, stocking shelves and of course, interacting with our loyal customers. You’ll also work very closely with our Op-Shop Manager.

Days available:

Moorabbin Op-Shop – Multiple roles on –

Working closely with the dog team, you will provide enrichment for all our fury friends, along with cleaning duties and topping up items, like food and bedding. This role is very rewarding as you will be hands on with the animals in our care, you must be physically fit as you will be on your feet a lot. We start you off at entry level and you work your way up with the more energetic breeds. You will be confident with all breeds of dogs, and you must be able to take direction well from the kennels team.

Events are such a huge part of what we do at the AAPS. You will need to be a well-presented confident people person and have a passion for animal welfare. Sometimes events will be onsite at the AAPS in Keysborough, or the event will be out in the community, normally within the South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Events normally run on a weekend, so availability across the weekend is a must. If you have a busy schedule but can’t commit to a regular shift at the shelter or op-shop, this is the perfect way to give back to the animals in our care and have a lot of fun at the same time. Please hit the apply button below if you feel this is the right fit for you, we would love to have you on board.

Come join the Cattery team and provide much needed enrichment for these fine felines. We currently have a lot of cats on site at the AAPS and we need dedicated volunteers to provide these fury friends with plenty of play and love. This role will also be required to assist with cleaning condo’s/ dishes and general stocking of items. If you love cats and have a spare few hours a week, we would love for you to come down and meet all our cats on a regular basis. This role will require a minimum 3-month commitment.
